Hay-On-Wye Sale

We travelled up to Hay early Saturday morning praying that the weather would hold, and true to form it rained all day!

I hadn't seen the catalogue prior to arriving, however on inspection I came across the Hafdre consignment and consequently came home with Lot 186a - a mare and foal namely Hafdre Hwyl by Betws Coch y Bonddu (Coed Coch Saled) out of Hafdre Alaw (Stoatley Hydref) and her filly Hafdre Anna.

The filly is a fantastic mover with plenty of the old fashioned pony quality like her dam so will be one for the show ring in 2009.

Many thanks to Steve, Julie and Sophie of the Rhesfair Stud - I couldn't have done it without you!

Fayre Oaks

An excellent sale for the buyers this year but disappointing sale from a sellers point of view which reflected the current financial climate.

Overall an excellent time was had as usual, catching up with friends from further afield and avoiding the potential embarrassment of Andy at Runshaw Stud and his 'take no prisoners' camera ethic!

We came home with our new senior stallion Farchynys Andreas who is now settling happily into his new stable.

Hartlip Charity Horse Show

Farchynys Zircon went to his first show of the year today, a warm up for the season next year where he will be contesting three year old classes.

He didn't disappoint and was 2nd in a class of twenty ponies - his behaviour was impeccable and he once again showed us that B's can be flashy big movers too!

Update..

This week has been a hectic one as we have now upgraded our premises meaning we have moved approximately ten miles east of our old residence in Hildenborough, although some of the ponies will continue to reside there.

National Welsh & Part Bred Show

Yet another thoroughly enjoyable weekend in Shrewsbury where I competed in the WPCS Young Judges Competition - there were thirty five Young Judges forward of which only three from each section are placed with four Section D's to judge this year.

I found the experience to be an excellent one, and although I was unplaced (congratulations to the winners) I feel proud that I was there to represent Home Counties WPCA.

Many thanks to Ruth Thacker who has been so supportive in her role of mentor and guide for accompanying me to the show.

More congratulations are in order to Sandra & Phil Pragnell of Salcyderw for winning a huge barren mare class with Friars Tia, to Jason & Tara with their results for Magri Chablis and to Sophie Williams for winning the Rhydspence final with Caerhuleog Lady Jane - well done all, I think my ears will be ringing from all the cheering for weeks to come!!

Royal Welsh Show

Having just returned from Wales I can say I have thoroughly enjoyed myself this week. The judging was commendable, particularly in the Sec A classes, and many onlookers commented on this fact.

Would like to congratulate Barry Shepherd and Vervale Gabbana on taking Male & Overall Sec A Champion and also Mark & Liz Kilby for taking the female championship with Idyllic Fonteyn - a double whammy for HCWPCA members!!

The trip also took us over to West Wales, just past Lampeter, to purchase our new Sec A senior stallion Farchynys Andreas.

Andreas is by Coed Coch Ariandy (Coed Coch Saled) & out of Bengad Martha.

Having been a massive fan of Coed Coch Ariandy and his projeny and having admired Andreas from a far for several years now I cannot thank Sandi of Prengwyn Stud enough for allowing me to purchase him.

Half Way Point..

We are now in July and past the half way mark of the year, seems to be getting quicker every year!

Dan-Y-Lan Merry Julienne & Nerwyn Nesta have both been covered by Amilas Beau Brummel.

Cilsane Nikita has been covered by Dyffryncothi Myrddyn.

Fingers crossed for a better year than last year and that all mares are safely in foal for 2009.

EWPCA Summer Medal

Although rain was predicted we had some lovely sunshine at this show.

Farchynys Shani was 3rd in the barren mare class and Farchynys Penri was 1st in the stallion class.

(Both shown on behalf of Farchynys Stud)

Great Chart Show Series

On his first outing this year, Dyffryncothi Myrddyn was 2nd in good company in the NPS Silver Medal Class.

Newest Addition

Our newest addition arrived this week - Rhyd Ddu Handel (Parc Hebog X Rhyd Ddu Rhisian).

A four year old son of the 2007 Royal Welsh class winning mare Rhisian, Handel has already been second there himself and we have high hopes for his future as a ridden pony.

A definite HOYS prospect, one to watch out for in 2009!

Is Summer Here At Last?!

The first foal of Amilas Beau Brummel finally arrived shortly after the last update, a dark bay roan filly with two whites.

Even at this early stage she has an abundance of bone like her sire and has a wonderful pony head.

18/04/08

Stud Duties

Wharley Replica has now gone to his summer residence to start covering some mares.

Also anxiously awaited is the first foal by Amilas Beau Brummel to a lovely old fashioned stamp Part Bred mare, now over a week overdue and hanging onto the foal with all her might!!

13/04/08

SCWPCA Spring Show

Dunsford Springcorn, sire of our own Ch. Farchynys Zircon was 2nd in a strong class, shown on behalf of Farchynys Stud.

Back Into Work...

Dyffryncothi Myrddyn has now been brought in for show preparation and has been brought back into ridden work, with the hope that he will soon be ready to embark on his ridden career. As usual he has taken to everything exceptionally well showing promise not only on the flat but also over some fences. On his second ever attempt he made an excellent shape over vaious jumps including brightly coloured fillers and was completely unfazed, once again showing the true versatility and good nature that he possesses.

22/01/08

Wharley Replica

Congratulations to Jane Flavell for purchasing the outstanding senior stallion Wharley Replica!

Replica will be lightly shown this year and will also be standing at stud for 2008 to limited mares.

Happy New Year!

Would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and a prosperous 2008, as well as the best of luck for the upcoming season to everyone that has supported and wished me well throughout 2007.

We start 2008 with a new arrival from Amilas Stud - Amilas Beaujolais. 'Daisy' is out of a full sister to our stallion Amilas Beau Brummel. I'd like to thank her breeder Sal Keswani for giving me the opportunity to show such a wonderful filly on her behalf for the season and hope we do you proud!

We also have the 5 year old Section C mare Farchynys Ffantasi to produce under saddle for the year, aiming at the novice class at the Royal Welsh before building up to HOYS classes if she is not sold before then.

HCWPCA Foal Show

Littlebeechen Guinevere was excellently behaved at this show and despite being the youngest in a strong class held her own and was placed 3rd. Farchynys Jade was 1st place Sec B filly, shown by us on behalf of Farchynys Stud - her new owners were very pleased with her results, no doubt she will be one to watch for the future.

22/10/07

New Additions

We have two new additions this week: Dan-Y-Lan Merry Julienne is finally coming home from Morvanna Stud in Lancashire & Littlebeechen Guinevere arrived today, many thanks to the Littlebeechen Stud for such a wonderful filly. We will be attending several foal shows with Guinevere and her progress will be regularly updated.

14/10/07

Great Chart Showing Series

Dyffryncothi Myrddyn was 1st place in both his classes today, qualifying for the Ponies UK Winter Championship and was In Hand Champion. We were very pleased with him indeed!

29/09/07

Idleigh Showing Show

On his second outing of this year, Dyffryncothi Myrddyn was 1st in his class. The judge, having qualified two ponies herself for HOYS this year, commented on his suitability for the ridden job at the highest level which needless to say put a smile on our faces!

23/09/07

DDRC Autumn Show

Dyffryncothi Myrddyn attended his first show this year and, shown by Arran Byers, was 2nd in a good size class. Myrddyn was as usual impeccably behaved and received compliments from several people, although he was rather tired at the end of the day having been dragged from the field, bathed and transformed from a hairy mud monster to a sleek show animal in just a few hours the day before!

02/09/07

Tonbridge Lions Charity Show

Catrina, yearling filly owned by Marsh Stud, went to her first show today having come down from Wales only two weeks ago having hardly been handled. She was very well behaved and handled the many people and horses very well, winning a large class!

26/08/07

Edenbridge & Oxted Agricultural Show

Marsh Rosina went on her first WPCS Medal outing today to Edenbridge & Oxted Agricultural Show, our most local show featuring breed classes. After originally being pulled in second in what was probably the biggest Welsh class of the day and in excellent company she finished third in a line up that consisted of all the best local studs and their ponies. Her breeder Shan Loudon of the Marsh Stud was extremely pleased, even more so because this mare hasn't been shown at this level for a good few years.

Learning to Drive

Thanks to the help of a good friend of mine I have been learning to drive inpreparation for when Amilas Beau Brummel is broken to harness. The eventual aim is that he will be shown at the RW under harness. Many thanks to A. Byers for letting me borrow Dukeshill DiMarco to practise on.

22/07/07

Chequer Tree Showing Shows

Well in a day of respite from the continuous rain, we took Marsh Rosina & Farchynys Ffantasi out for a jolly before Edenbridge & Oxted show, especially as Rosina in particular hasn't been shown in a few years.

Both the girls were very well behaved and with the sun shining we had a good day!

28/06/07

EWPCA Summer Medal

Farchynys Zircon was 2nd at this show on a very wet and miserable day with Amilas Beau Brummel placed 4th in a strong class.

Good News & Bad News

This week has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride for both myself & friends, beginning early on with the news that a mare that I had been in talks to lease for a year had come down with severe lameness which consequently meant that she would not be coming after all, which was a huge disappointment on my part. This was shortly followed by a mare owner approaching me to lease their mare, a fantastically bred pony, I couldn't believe it! Then followed the news that a good friend of mine had found one of her mares dead in the field who had a 4 week old filly at foot, which was an awful shock to everyone. The filly seems to be doing her mum proud so far and has taken to the bottle quite quickly, so fingers crossed for her.

Now I'd like to introduce Marsh Rosina, my exciting newest addition!

03/06/07

Charing Charity Show

Bovril went along to this show (the last one to be held here) to show some support for a very worthy cause and was 2nd in his class AND the sun was shining! It was nice to see so many faces attending and I am sure plenty of money was raised.

28/05/07

Surrey County Show

Yet another wet cold and miserable day for a show! Both ponies went very well despite the weather conditions, Amilas Beau Brummel being third in a good strong Sec A Youngstock class and Farchynys Zircon was fifth in a strong Sec B Youngstock class.

Congratulations to Farchynys Stud who won both the Sec B Youngstock and Adult classes and were also Section B Champion with their broodmare.

18/05/07

Dyffryncothi Myrddyn

I noticed that the News page seems to be lacking in news on Myrddyn so thought I'd include an update. He has now been brought in for schooling and preparation for some novice ridden classes later on in the season having finished covering for the year. I am sure you will agree that considering that he is just four and has been running out with a mare for the past month or so he doesn't look half bad! I will keep this page updated with his progress and will hopefully add some pictures of him under saddle soon.

07/05/07

HCWPCA Spring Medal Show

A very wet and overcast day!! Farchynys Zircon was fantastic today, he did not put a foot out of place and was 2nd in his class as he is still not quite ready for the ring, but good experience all the same. Amilas Beau Brummel was 4th in his class, due to classes clashing he arrived late (and slightly dishevelled!), many thanks to Terry Thacker for stepping in to save the day by showing him for me.

A Quick Update

Above: Amilas Beau Brummel, Farchynys Zircon & Ballagh Welsh Wizard

All ponies are well and are very nearly ready for the busy summer show season ahead which I am looking forward to, even more so now the weather has finally brightened! It is rumoured that we are to expect a long and hot summer, thankfully the ponies seem to enjoy the warmth on their backs, although it is hoped we will have enough rain to keep the grass growing unlike last year.

Above: Nerwyn Nesta

I also look forward with anticipation to the first foals of the two stallions, Amilas Beau Brummel & Dyffryncothi Myrddyn, who have been blessed with some lovely mares to cover in their first year at stud. 11 months and counting...

Above: Nerwyn Nesta & Cwmisfoel Magnet

06/04/07

Great Chart Show

Bovril was second at this show and qualified for the Glyn Greenwood for PUK Summer Champs.

Along with this we had a visiting mare arrive who will be covered by Dyffryncothi Myrddyn so we look forward to the results of the covering next year!

10/03/07

Great Chart Championship Show

Bovril put on a brilliant show today, he went like a train and won his class. He then went into his first evening performance where he went on to be Res Reserve Champion of his section so was over the moon, he is becoming more of an extrovert which is very pleasing!

01/03/07

Time for Expansion!

We are very fortunate to have acquired a further 7 acres of land for the ponies to graze, giving further room for expansion (although I have told myself not to buy ponies just for the sake of it!)

28/01/07

HCWPCA Winter Woolies

Took Bovril to this show, mainly as a confidence building exercise, where he was 3rd in his class. He seemed a lot more at ease than the week before and I was very proud of him.

21/01/07

Amilas Beau Brummel's first show

Bovril went to his first show with me today, only his third ever show, where he won the class qualifying for PUK Winter Champs & Royal London Show. He isn't the most confident of ponies so I was very pleased with how he went considering he is in a new home.

To quote his breeder: "Brilliant! I am in shock... That's pretty good going for a pony that hasn't seen a stable for almost a year until two weeks ago!" I can assure you Sal, he scrubs up well, even in his winter woolies

08/01/07

Amilas Beau Brummel finally comes home...

After a few years of wanting but various things getting in the way, Bovril is finally my newest addition! Thanks very much to Sal of Amilas Stud for letting me buy him.

News - 2006

Ballagh Welsh Wizard does it again!

Magic went on his first show trip on his own today and didn't disappoint...He won his class qualifying for PUK Winter Champs & Royal London Show which just goes to show that you don't need to bath your pony to win a showing class!!!

Danaway Princess Anastacia is quite new to ridden showing but still managed to come 2nd & 3rd in the classes we did so well done Annie!

27/11/06

SCWPCA Foal Show

Farchynys Zircon made an instant impression when he attended his first outing to SEWPCA foal show, where he was 1st in his class and was Sec B Champion. He is now being prepared for the 2007 show season.
